Work permit / EAA

Post by timarli » Thu Feb 17, 2011 2:55 pm

Hi all.

I've been in the UK since Dec 2008 on a WP. (I would believe it if someone told me that I've got the last work permit thats been issued by HO :))

Anyway, at the moment I am not planning to change my immigration category as I'm almost half way to ILR. And I am not sure but I feel like this WP has an advantage over the tier-2...
And I'm also getting married to an EU citizen but again from my point of view switching to EAA is not favorable as it will reset the residency :S

I'm in between two visas as EAA will give me visa free travel in EU but the other one will give me ILR in 3 years. Any advices? Is there anything I'm missing?

Depends on what your priority is, and what do you want to happen sooner:

If it is settlement in the UK, continue on WP.
If it is the "freedom" to travel to EEA countries without the need of individual visa or you fear being fired from your job or being ordered to return to home country office before you get a chance to apply for settlement, change to EEA family permit.

Thanks for the prompt reply sushdmehta...

Actually my question sounded too optimistic I guess.

Ofc I would prefer settlement as I want to live here but...Not sure if I'll manage to do it as things are getting tougher and tougher.
Don't know whether it's better to take the short way or the safe way. So bloody difficult decision and the clock is ticking...
