you need to look up the TWES provisions in the workingintheuk website to see what the criteria for TWES is.

The Home Office policy instructions would suggest that it is possible for a CIMA student to obtain a TWES permit.
http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/ind/en ... ction3.pdf

Extracts of paragraph 3.7.3.1 which is specifically for CIMA

“If a student is taking their study on a part time basis and combining this with the required three year work experience, a TWES permit is needed”

Due to the nature of the CIMA qualification, it is unusual to obtain experience from an accounting firm. It is however possible that external companies may have subcontracted work such as producing monthly management accounts and other routine or ad-hoc management reports to the firm concerned which would enable the candidate to obtain the relevant experience.

TWES

Post by raniwza » Fri Jun 09, 2006 5:42 am

Hi Sakma

I have looked into TWES before when I was working in a CA temporarily. My employer at the time applied for a work permit for me to stay with them permanently although he did not meet the requirement (to advertise the job nationally) and the application was rejected so I think we should have apllied with TWES.

Believe me, ALL of the employers I have worked with refused to get TWES for me because the rule stated that after 2 years we have to go back to our home country. I am not sure about the ability to switch to work permit after that. As long as your employer is kind enough to sit down with you to do the paperwork, it is ok because the job does not need to be advertised under TWES.

Get the application forms from the Home Office and inform your employer to help you out and that will solve the problem. BTW, has your company has any vacancies for a trainee ACCA?

Thanks
rani
