Sponsor financial support and accomodation query

Post by garyboy » Thu Feb 17, 2011 11:18 am

Hi,

My wife is a British citizen and we are planning to visit her family in the UK for 20-30 days. I am planning to apply for a 6 month family visitor visa to travel with her, but just had a few queries with regard to the sponsor requirement in the application.

My father-in-law (British citizen) will be the sponsor for my visitor visa application. However, he will only be arranging the accommodation for us to stay with the family during our visit. Me and my wife will be taking care of all our financial expenses related to our trip and stay there.

I am currently employed and will provide evidence of my current employment and bank statements showing salary credited monthly to my account as supporting evidence of being able to financial support our travel expenses.

Two things i would like to know are:

1) If i will be providing all financial expenses of the trip, does the sponsor also need to provide proof of his financial ability (bank statements / wage slips etc.) or does it suffice for me to provide details of only my personal financial situation? Does the sponsor's financial situation weigh on the application even if we agree to bear all expenses?

2) Can my sponsor arrange for us to stay at his brother's house and note in his invitation letter that he has arranged accommodation for us at his brother's home and provides a letter from his brother agreeing to our stay and evidence that his brother owns the house with pictures of the house and room being provided to us to further support the evidence.

Would appreciate any views on these two queries from members.

Thanks,

The first point in the above link is the most important requirement of a visitor visa. If you meet these, then you should have no problem. I would therefore not worry to much about your two particular concerns

You will need to get your father in law to send you a sponsorship invitation letter explaining the purpose of your visit, how you intend to fund your stay and why you would return back to where you came from after the expiry of the visit.

Batleykhan,

Thanks for your response.

In terms of showing evidence of sufficient funds to pay for the trip, is there a benchmark of how much funds minimum you should show in your bank statement?

Also, if i have additional savings in stocks/bonds but those are held in another account in my father's name, would it help to show that or would they not consider it since the statement is not in my name?

You only need to show an amount which will support you and your wife for the period that you are going to spend in teh UK. That is all.

You do not need going into showing every penny you have got. I would certainly not show your dads statements as the ECO is not interested in that all.
