Unless he has ancestry connections to the UK - he will not be able to apply for a UK passport until he has spent a minimum of 3 years resident in the UK.

Thank you for your reply,

He spent from 2005 till 09 in UK studying before he left for Saudi arabia.

Would that be of any help toward applying? thank you

What right does he have to be in the UK now given you plan to marry in July?

In order to apply for naturalisation he needs to first have indefinite leave to enter/remain in the UK. Unless you have been living together outside the UK as a married couple for at least 4 years he would first need to apply for a two year spouse visa and complete a probationary two year period as your spouse and then apply for indefinite leave to remain.

If he has no intention of living in the UK then he won't get either the initial two year visa or indefinite leave to remain and will certainly not be granted citizenship.

Hi Greenie - I was about to post the same as you before I posted my second query.

Given they say they plan to marry in the UK in July it struck me that he must either a) have clearance or b) they must have a plan for entry clearance.

If it's "a" - there is a (admittedly very small) possibility he does have ILR already and thus could switch almost immediately to citizen once married.

Suggest we let them come back with his current clearance status before suggesting too much further.

Yes I agree, I have pondered posting on this all morning but sensed it was going to be a long one...you're right I should have clarified whether he already has ILR/E though. Although even if he does it seems he has been outside UK from 2009 - 2011 so approaching two years...so many questions...

Does your partner hold any kind of entry clearance for the UK?

Start with the links provided.

Look at the fiancee visa if you do wish to get legally married in the UK. Otherwise get legally married in Egypt (or current location) and look at the spouse visa.
