Swiss residency for non-EU partner

Post by Silkath » Wed Mar 02, 2011 3:02 pm

Hi all,

I've recently been offered an (at least) 2-year contract to work in Zürich. I'm a UK citizen with a PhD and have been assured by my future employers that I will have no problems getting a residency permit. However my girlfriend of 3 years is a New Zealand citizen. She is also well qualified (bachelor's degree and a PhD). My salary will be sufficient to support us both, but ultimately my girlfriend would want a job, to prevent boredom more than anything else.

I have a couple of questions:
1. What are the chances of my girlfriend being able to get a residency visa in Switzerland given the above circumstances?
2. I realise she would need to be offered a job by a Swiss company before being offered any kind of work permit, but would she be able to apply for a work permit (once offered a job) while in Switzerland or would she have to do this from outside the country?
3. Who should I contact for the official Swiss government view on this? (Ideally an email address)
4. Any other advice on my situation?

Thanks for your help.
