Visa Extension - self employed

Hi All,

My friend worked in Ireland for 5 years on stamp4 lost his job and worked as self employed person.

What is the possibility of extending the visa and what would be the requirements, He still have working visa stamp4 but its due to be renewed shortly.

Any help would be appreciated.
