getting married in the UK whilst on a tier 2 visa

Post by Melrose76 » Wed Mar 09, 2011 4:04 pm

Hi there,

I'm and Australian citizen working in the UK on a Tier 2 visa which expires at the end of October.

My British citizen partner and I have been together for 2 and a half years and wish to get married eventually. But am wondering if we do get married before my visa expires - will this enable me to stay in the UK until after the expiration date?

We do not wish to settle in the UK - it would only be for another 6 months or so after the visa expires, and then we intend to go back to Australia.

Apart from extension of the current visa, (which we're not sure we want to do) we are looking at any other options.....

Any information would be helpful.

Thanks!

To continue living in the UK one must have a valid leave that permist so.

Marriage is not an immigration matter, and doesn't extend anyone's permission to stay in the UK.
