Need Info on getting Police clearance certificate

Hi All,
I am in UK since 2 months on Tier 1 Visa. I am indian passport holder. My new employer (my first job in UK) is asking me to produce Police clearance certificate from India within 28 days. I browsed through web and understood that I need to apply with Indian High Comission in London. I tried calling them but it goes to voice mesaage and nobody returns call. I wanted to know how long it takes to give them police clearance certificate? If anybody has done this before from UK, please advise

A friend of mine got his PCC in 2006. It took him 5 working days to get it (after submitting his application).

It took HCI London 45 days to issue PCC when my partner applied for it in 2008.

There was no change in address, no period of residence in different cities / states in India - things that may have required time for (extra) investigations. And, this despite a PCC already issued in 2004!

Can we check the PCC Status applied at indian high commission london?
I have already went to IHC at london office to get my PCC after 45 days but they have not issued it and they have not provided any information just advised me come back after some days to get PCC.They have sent another reminder to Papport Office.

Can we find out status fo PCC from Passport Office or Police Station in India?
