Q on Bank statements for spouse settlement visa application

Post by Mohammad24 » Sat Mar 19, 2011 10:12 am

Hi,

My wife and I arrived to the Philippines on 2nd of January, and my first day at work was on the 3rd of January. I opened my bank account with Citibank on the 15th of Jan, and I received my first salary into this account on the 19th of Jan-making it the first transaction on my account.

I am hoping to apply for the spouse settlement visa at the end of June, because that's when I'll have 6 pay slips, and 6 bank statements.

My Question is... Will January's bank statement be acceptable (or count as one month's statement)? It does show my very first salary and all the following transactions from the 19th of Jan onwards, but because the account was opened on the 15th of Jan, and the first transaction is from the 19th, can I still use January's statement as one of the 6 month's statements to fulfill the requirement for the spouse settlement visa, which requires 6 bank statements?

I hope someone can advise me on this issue.

Thank you. :!:

Can somebody please share their thoughts on my concerns?

Thanks.

Thank you for your reply.

Would I need to explain why my Jan statement starts from the 19th?

Or is it simply accepted for the sole reason that my salary was paid and can be seen in that statement?

Thanks.

The ECO simply needs to see that you have regular income being paid into the account. The January one will be fine.
I'm slightly confused though. Are you currently resident in the UK and employed here? You mentioned arriving 'to the Philippines' in January with your wife. Where is she now?

OK, great. Thanks for confirming that. :)

My wife is British, and we're currently living together in the Philippines, where I now work, but I'm hoping to apply for a spouse settlement visa late June/early July, God willing.

Asalam alaikum.
In which case, your current income won't be as important as yours and/or your wife's potential earnings in the UK, apart from showing the source of savings if you have any.
Most importantly, you will need to prove in your application that you will be able to support yourselves financially in the UK and will have adequate accommodation upon arrival.
How long have you been married and living together during this time outside of the UK?

Wa'alaikum assalam. :)

Thank you for your help, much appreciated!

How would I indicate my potential earnings in the UK? Will the application ask me what my potential earnings will be?

We do have savings-I have over 10K GBP in my bank account in India, which I managed to save from my previous employment in Thailand. Will I simply be required to show a bank certificate/letter confirming my savings? Or will I be required to actually show where I got the money from? (in which case, it'll probably be in the form of my Thailand job pay slips?) Also, since I'm an Indian national, and will be applying from the Philippines, will it be acceptable if I show my savings from my Indian account?

RE: accommodation, we will initially be staying at my brother in law's place, so we can provide a letter from him confirming that, as well as his mortgage statements. Will that be sufficient?

We have been married for 1 year and 9 months now, and have been living together since day one. We flew out from the UK, one day after we married. However, we never had the opportunity to have our marriage registered in the UK, but we have had it registered at an Indian marriage Court.

10k in savings will strengthen the financial aspect of the application, but you will have to show evidence of the source of this. As long as you have access to the account it doesn't matter where the savings are held.

Your brother-in-law should provide you with a letter offering accommodation, a copy of his mortgage agreement, and details of the size of the property...rooms etc and how many people currently live there. Could you obtain a written job offer in advance for you or your wife? This would help.

Thanks again for your prompt response.

Can you advise how I can show evidence for the source of my savings?

When I was working in Thailand, I made one transfer from my Thai account to my Indian account, and then the company I was working for in Thailand also directly transferred my provident fund into my Indian account. Besides this, I also transferred my annual bonus from my Thai account to my Indian account. Also, on another occasion, I withdrew cash from my Thai account, and used a third party service in Thailand to have the sum transferred to my Indian account.

Since it is I who will be applying for the spouse settlement visa, would it be acceptable if my wife were to get a job offer in advance, and if so, should I attach her offer letter in my visa application?

Thank you!

Do you have a paper trail showing the transfers? If the savings are from your earnings submit everything you have available to show the employment earnings. This is in the main simply to show that the savings haven't been deposited by a 3rd party to make the application look good, only to be returned to the lender once the visa's been approved.
A written job offer for your wife submitted with the application will be fine.
