Can he claim jsa?

A friend of mine who got a two year visa has just told me he's been to the job center to claim jsa won't this affect his indefinte leave to remain application? I think its a wrong move, but don't want to say to much just in case they think i am being negative.

does his visa say 'no recourse to public funds' on what basis is he here?

Is he claiming contribution based or income based JSA?

Hi Greenie i don't know the answer to either of these questions. Would claiming one of the above jsa's make a diffrence? Surley the jc wouldn't let him claim if his visa was stamped with no recourse to public funds?

He can claim contribution based JSA if he has made enough NI contributions but not Income Based JSA if he has no recourse to public funds. Tell your friend to read the guidance at the top of this section.

Thanks for your reply. It just amazes me that that the jc would even make him belive he could claim. He can't claim contribution based js because he was able to work up till now. can he claim because his wife works though?
