Route from HSMP to Naturalization for spouse

Post by umb » Thu Mar 31, 2011 3:46 pm

Hi I have a question from my friend.

He came to UK in 2006, got married and his wife joined him in 2007. Both of them got ILR in 2010 and now they want to apply for naturalization next month. He has the following question

Can his wife apply with him for naturalization at the same time?
or she need to wait for completion of 5 years?
or should he apply for naturalization first and then his wife can apply for naturalization on the basis of being british citizen spouse?

Total time his wife has spent in UK is 3 years as a dependent of HSMP and 1 year as ILR holder.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Thanks

This is the best option to save the wife having to wait 5yrs on her own application.

Kind regards

Yes she can, she can apply for BC as wife of a BC afer her husband becomes BC

Can you give any link or reference from UKBA website where they mentioned this information clearly?

In the application form there is no where you will be asked to mention under what status you stayed in the UK. As long as you lived here for 3 years in whatever means legally and married to a British citizen then you can apply for the spouse route naturalisation.
