Switching from Tier-1 to Tier-2 (General)

Post by shoaibazizmeer@hotmail.co » Wed Apr 06, 2011 2:40 pm

Hi there

My current employer is willing to sponsor me for Tier-2 (General) Visa.

But I have few reservations. They are as follow:

1. Does Tier-2 (General) Category restrict me only to work with the employer only who sponsored me?

2. If I get new job offer from another employer while I am under Tier-2 (General), will I need a new letter of sponsorship?

3. I feel that an employee holding Tier-2 (General) visa, finds it hard to switch to another job unlike Tier-1 (General) and it minimize his/her chances to find another job? Is that right?

I will really appreciate it if I get answers to my questions on this forum.

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Because you are dependent on a new / potential employer to "sponsor" you, there is no denying a disadvantage as compared to Tier 1 (General).
Life isn't fair, but you can be!

Why on earth would anyone want to do this switch? The only reason I can think of is because one cannot satisfy criteria for Tier 1 at extension stage.

Yes, You are right I do not qualify for Tier-1 and if you look at the date when I made this post, Tier-1(General) had already been scrapped off, except transitional arrangements. And I am still analyzing the pros and cons of switching to Tier-2 visa. So far I fond more cons than pros.

My main concern is that how would my prospective employer will react on my Tier-2 if I want to switch to another job. If an employee with Tier-2 General is not preferred in the job market than Tier-2 is not going to help that much.

If you have an idea about new job opportunities for tier-2 visa holders, you can share with me. Thanks
