Can't get graduate job with PSW

Post by urbanefear » Thu Apr 14, 2011 10:00 am

I graduated from university with a good 2:1 in International Business & as i have been lucky to have gained part-time work experience in an IT company during my 3 years in Uni and have just moved on to a post study visa, I would naturally be expected to look for a better job but the trends seem to changing really quickly these days as most top employer wouldn't employ you without an ILR which isn't really helping matter as everyone should be given equal oppurtunity or what do you think guys??

I came across this link on BOOTS website this morning just to give you all an idea on what im talking about, has anyone got any tips on how to go about this barrier??

Your qualifications and experience
You'll need GCSEs in Maths and English (at Grade C or above), at least a 2:1 in your degree (realised or predicted) in a relevant discipline. You won’t need to have worked in Retail or IT before but you will need to show strong leadership qualities, even if its through your extra-curricular activities.
You do need to have permanent residency status - we can't accept anyone on the programme who is on a time-limited VISA. So, if you're in the UK on a Tier 1 or Post Graduate Work Visa, you're not eligible to apply for the programme.

The rewards of working for Boots
· Salary: You’ll start on a salary of £23,000 with an extra £1000 welcome payment

well, its a grossly pessimistic sweeping statement to say that
most top employer wouldn't employ you without an ILR
Obviously if you wanna go for best of the best, then yea they would have enough applicants from uk students applying anyway that they dont need to bother about people on limited visa.

you just need to lower your expectations a bit and swiftly move on from employers who have such requirements as Boots.

Mate life is not fair/

I think you need to lower your expectations and work towards your goals. I'm on PSW and did worked for BOOTS as a Sales assistant.

Found a IT internship. Worked 3 months for FREE.. Built the company system. Got hired. Got promoted this year !! Now company Sponsoring for my TIER2. They're taking care of everything including Solicitor BILLS !

So its not that hard. Just focus and keep tying mate.

Good luck
