Business and Commerce Visa

Post by amonty » Fri Jun 30, 2006 8:22 am

Hi Guys,

I have accepted the offer from a organization in London. :) I will be moving there very soon with my spouse.

I will be there on a Business and Commerce Visa. I was told that this visa would allow my wife also to work. I am not sure about it, can some one confirm the same. :?

Also what is the possibility that I can apply fro my HSMP after reaching UK and then probably change my job after a couple of years. Is this possible? :?

Do I have to go through a Birtish Consolate / Embassy interview for both of us for the WP?

Warm regards,
Monty

If your spouse gets a dependant visa then they can work too, there would be no restriction on the type of work they can do.

You can 'switch' into HSMP from inside the UK, you can do this at any time on a B&C permit.

I don't know about the EC.

Another query

Post by amonty » Thu Jul 06, 2006 10:22 am

Hi Team,

I have another doubt, would require information on the same. As I have mentined earlier I will be going on a Business & Commerce work permit to UK soon. One possible problem that I forsee is that my wifes name has been mis-spelled on her School certificate. This certificate is the base for our marriage certificate. Will it create any issues for us? The mistake is also very menial, her actual name one 'E' more than the certificate has.

Warm regards,
Monty

Are you saying that her name on her passport and the name on the marriage certificate are different? If not then clearly there is no problem here.

But even if those two documents are different by just one "e" then I really would not worry. Certainly not a matter to lose sleep over.

Has your wife applied for her dependant's visa yet?

Hi John,

Yes her name in the passport and the marriage certificate differ by a single 'E'.

I have not yet initiated my wifes dependent visa. Will start the process this week. Thus the worry.

Thanks for the information. Do let me know if you know any website or document available which can help me, do let me know.

Warm regards,
Monty

I really shouldn't worry about it if I were you. Such anomalies are surprisingly common, since certificates and so on are all dependent on the accuracy of the person transcribing the information anyway.

Good luck with the application!

Hi Guys,

Thanks a lot for all the right information. My passport as well as my wifes came back with a stamping for 5 years in a flat 4 days (including courier time) from the Deputy High Comission's office. All set and I guess now it looks like we will finally be travelling to London.

One further question though. I have an Indian passport and do not know if ECNR (Emigration Check Not Required) is necessary on my passport. It is not yet stamped on my Passpoprt though my wife has it stamped already.

Regards

Hi John, WoodieG, Christopher,

Thank you for all the clarifications. This forum has helped me a lot during this crucial period.

now I am all set with the visa/wp. Will have my tickets does in a couple of days. Then its all packing and travel.

Any idea on how I can get a shared accomodation in London? Are there any websites or local yellowpages/newspapers with classified in accomodation?

Thank you.

I live in Birmingham, roughly 120 miles away from London, so those living in London might be able to advise you better.

However, in the meantime have a look at www.gumtree.com . For the first night or two you might want to book an hotel using a website such as http://www.travelodge.co.uk/ .
