Would I be able to resume my nationality?

Post by maccy » Tue Apr 19, 2011 1:04 am

I'll be joining the Pakistani Air Force.

I was born and raised in the United Kingdom and I am a British Citizen by birth.

The Pakistani Air Force requires me to drop my citizenship and nationality, or nationality only.

After serving in the Pakistani Air Force would I be able to return to the UK as normal?

Thank you

The answer is no, you would not be able to return as normal. You would have to apply for Entry Clearance because you would not be British.

Vinny's link says that some people can apply to resume British Citizenship, but your circumstances do not appear to meet the criteria for resumption, so it looks like you would have to start from square one to become a British Citizen again, and you would need to be resident in the UK.

You might want to look at how you would qualify to return. You may not be able to come back and live in the UK.

Hi there,

If I renounce my citizenship (formally) - I've read on the UKBA that I am entitled to it again (once again) and if I renounce it then never again.

I've also read that I would need to attend a citizenship ceremony.

What do you think?

You are right that people can reacquire British citizenship once after renouncing it, but ONLY if you renounced your British citizenship to keep or acquire another nationality. As far as I am aware you can have British and Pakistani citizenship simultaneously, you would be renouncing British citizenship to serve in Pakistan's Air Force.

Here is the guide:

Do you also hold Pakistani citizenship currently or will acquire it through some route to commence your employment with PAF?
