French Citizen and Non EEA Spouse

Post by Lofty » Mon Jul 10, 2006 6:31 pm

I was wondering if anyone can provide some advice here.
I have been resident in Ireland for the last 7 years along with my spouse, who has been legally resident for 1 and 1/2 years.
My spouse intends to apply for naturalisation in Ireland after 5 years of continued residency but fears that we don't know any couple who have been through the process.
Do I need to apply for Irish residency to strengthen her case myself?
I would appreciate any input from anyone who can comment on our situation.

If someone is applying for naturalisation on the basis of having resided in Ireland for the previous 5 years their marital status is irrelevant . Currently applications take approximately two years to be processed . Do you need to apply for Irish residency ? No .

Your spouse may be eligible for a permanent residency card . You could also apply if you wished . Five years of residency is required .http://www.justice.ie/80256E01003A21A5/ ... Q6PEK7V-en
