Council tax reduction in HSMP visa?

Post by Sangita » Sun May 01, 2011 11:48 am

Hi, I am a HSMP visa holder having council tax reduction of 25% since my spouse is a student. As I am going to apply for an extension soon, I am worried that this may be taken as a benefit. Please clear me if the discount I have been taking is considered as the 'no recourse to public fund' or as the council tax benefit.

Thanking you.

I believe it is NOT a benefit, a council tax benefit would be when they pay your entire council tax bill(nice hey?)

It does not come under benefits.

Council tax rules vary from borough to borough. Council tax can be a benefit i.e. If you go to your local authority and make a council tax benefit claim. Other councils offer a council tax exemptions to full time students, if this is the case then it's NOT considered a benefit.
