Potential issues with UK visa application 4 Peruvian chica?

Post by automata » Tue Jul 11, 2006 1:52 pm

Hi there

Does anyone know any issues or have had any negative experiences in applying for a UK visit visa from a less developed country? My Peruvian girlfriend wants to visit the UK for a holiday. She hasn't a lot of dosh so i'll be acting as her financial sponsor including residency during her stay. Before she applies for a visa, I want to know if there's issues i should be concerned about including what docs she should take to the interview to support the application etc etc...

I'm writing this post 'cause I've heard some nightmare stories about South Americans being rejected for not a lot of reason - so i'm trying to gather as much info as possible so we get the application right first time. I guess the only 2 things the authorities are concerned about is 'can she support herself whilst in the UK?' and 'will she be returning to Peru?'. So - if I provide the authorities sponsor material, e.g. evidence of sufficient money to sustain her (my bank statements), proof of my address and some proof from her side that she wants to return, will that be sufficient for a successful application?

I've heard also that the authorities don't like applications for 'partners' 'cause that'll mean they'll probably end up living in the UK one day (even though that's the long term plan). Is this true?!

Would appreciate any feedback at all.....many thanks....

Automata, I think the main thing you need to get your head around is the need for your girlfriend to provide evidence as regards "reason to return" to Peru. In her circumstances that is the main reason why an application for a visitor's visa is possibly going to get declined.

So put yourself in the shoes of the ECO at the British Embassy in Peru who is faced with having to deal with this visa application, and ask .... is there enough evidence to show that she will return to Peru before the end of the visa?

So what evidence do you intend to provide to satisfy the ECO's mind on that point? Has she got a job to go back to? Does she own land? The family situation?
