Deportation status

Hi everyone - I hope you can help as I'm new to here.

I was very silly back in 1992/1993 (when i was quite young) and overstayed in the USA under the Visa Waiver programme for UK nationals.
I arrived in November 1992 and was deported in August 1993. I am unsure who paid for my return ticket back to the UK as although I had one booked when arrived in November 1992 I obviously hadn't used it.

I have not tried to return since but have decided that maybe I'll plan a holiday at some time this year. Could someone help me with the following questions:

1. Will I be allowed to return for a 1 or 2 week holiday?

2. Will I need to apply to the US Embassy in London for a Visa or would I
just be able to get on a plane and go?

3. If I am able to just get on a plane and I have to fill in one of those little entry cards there is a question that asks if I have been deported. If I obviously say yes then could I be refused entry at US immigration?

1. You can't use the VWP any more, since you overstayed.

2. The green forms are no longer used. Now you need to fill in ESTA and have it approved, otherwise they won't let you board.

In your case, ESTA will almost certainly be denied, and you'll have to apply for a visa.

Luckily I work about 2 minutes from the US Embassy in London so I will make an appointment to go and apply for a Visa.

I don't wish to keep bothering you but what do you think my chances are?

Did you ever go to the US Embassy?
