Can I enter Geneva with my visa?

Post by picosam » Tue May 10, 2011 12:40 pm

I just had a visa delivered from the French consulate, marked with the following information:

FRANCE (sauf CTOM)
Valid from May 2011 to May 2012
Duration of stay XXX
CESEDA R311-3 7
VOIR AUTHORIZATION DE TRAVAIL

My questions are:

1. Can I arrive at Geneva instead of Paris as the first port of entry with this visa?
2. I have been blacklisted in the SIS before obtaining this visa. Will this cause problems at entry?
3. What's CESEDA R311-3 7 ?

yes, you can. Reason is simple: Geneva airport has two exits, and you can choose which one to take: Swiss exit or French exit. You're effectively free which one to take, and in both cases it's just as if you arrived to that country (only)

Are there still two exits from Geneva airport and Basil airport now that Switzerland is part of Schengen? Now that I think the politics through, I guess there still would likely be...

In any case, you could exit to the French exit, and then take a taxi to whereever you want in the Swiss part.

There are, as despite Schengen the countries do not form a customs union. Hence the importance of where you exit is not so much passport/Schengen related, but rather tax/declaration-wise important.

The airport has it all on its own site:
