Family Visit for my wifes mum

Post by alex2011 » Tue May 10, 2011 9:05 pm

Quick question
My wifes mum is visiting us from Russia this year, she will be paying her own air fare and aslo has £10000 pounds on her bank card.
I am English and my wife has IDLR, at the moment i am not working being a self employed trademan things have started to slow down very much, I had to claim housing benefit and council tax benefit, if my wifes mum was to stay in our flat would this be effected?

What forms do i have to fill in, money is very tight at the moment my wife has had to increase her O/D by £2000 to see us through for the next 4 months (ie) to keep her good credit rating.

In two weeks i could be back in work but as we all no the country has slowed, i would be happy for some advice please.

Best Regards

I would not worry about your finances if your mum in law has 10k at her disposal during her visit. That should be enough for the max 6 months that she is entitled to stay in UK.

You can invite her as a family member, but you will need to show that you can accommodate her during her stay. The advantage of this is that if she is refused you can appeal against the decision.

On the other hand she can come as a General visitor and can stay at a hotel if you do not have sufficient accommodation. However for this your mum has to show her financial circumstances and incentives to return back home. The disadvantage of this is that if she is refused, she can not appeal.

Here are the forms you will need:

Hi
Thanks for your reply, we applied for the family visa some problems with the translation of documents at the Embassy (Property Documents)
Then the Embassy said just bring what documents you have to my wifes mum, we had to fax and invitation same day to my wifes mum signed by my wife for the embassy.
Had e.mail today Your UK visa application has now been considered and your decision is ready for collection. Please attend the British Embassy on monday 1600 hrs.

Best Regards

Alex
