Do you see them scrapping indefinite leave to remain

Post by GSOtodd » Thu May 12, 2011 5:24 pm

I know that the salary criteria and criminal thresholds are preliminary steps but what do you think will happen next. Do you see them say that work permit holders can come in and work for only four years and then leave, not to be eligible to apply for settlement?

Do you think that any major changes coming in before August that will prevent me from applying? I am due for ILR in August and can apply in July. Do you see any major changes before then?

No one can tell you about August changes in May.

I don't think we should start speculating but given that you have asked I doubt that they would make changes that would mean that someone who is about to qualify for ILR under a route intended for settlement would no longer be able to.

Are we expecting another round of changes in August 2011?

According to Govt. Business plan 2011, we can work on these time frames:

"
Consult on further changes to settlement rules to break the link between temporary migration and settlement (May 2011 - Sep 2011).

Consult on family migration, including family settlement (Jul 2011 - Oct 2011).

Analyse family consultation responses and develop new Immigration Rules (Oct 2011 - Mar 2012).

Implement new arrangements for family migration arising from the consultation (Apr 2012 - May 2015).

Include provisions to change immigration appeal rights in the Ministry of Justice second session Repeals Bill, which will remove unnecessary laws from the statute book (May 2012 - May 2012).
