penalty for overstaying visitor visa?

Post by aelish » Tue Jul 18, 2006 9:12 am

I realize this is more of a work-related board, but I haven't been able to locate a forum for visitor visa questions...so....

I am currently in the UK on a 6 month visitor visa which expires July 27th. I would like to attend a wedding on August 8th and then return to the US on the 10th or 11th of August. I have travelled to the UK more than 10 times in the past 12 years and never overstayed a visa, but am wondering how a possible overstay would affect future entry. I would not plan to try and re-enter for at least 6 months after the date I leave as I am aware that the maximum stay is 6 months in any 12 month period.

also - I entered the UK through London and will fly back to the US out of Dublin (i.e. will UK immigration "know" when I left anyway?)

thanks for the help!

They will only know if they catch you while entering Ireland from UK.

If you go via road thru Northern Ireland no one will even check your passport.

Nowadays they often have passport control during departure as well in airports.
