Extending tier 5 work permit

Post by wringles » Tue May 17, 2011 9:56 pm

I am currently in the UK on a tier 5 work visa. My visa expires at the end of January next year and I am hoping to find a way to stay for maybe another 12 months after that. I met and now live with my partner who is a UK citizen (hence the reason for wanting to stay). We have looked into the unmarried partner visa but will only have been together for 18 months when my visa expires.
I have also looked into getting sponsored by an employer but all that I have read says that you need to be a skilled worker and that the employer has to prove that the job for which you would be employed cannot be filled by a UK resident or an EU worker. I currently work as an accounts clerk and don't know what the next step would, or could, be and just wanting to get ourselves organised so we can plan our future.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated!
Ta muchly.

You can't extend a YMS visa.

You need to apply for a visa in your own right or qualify for EU citizenship:

- Tier 2 sponsored by Employer. Fair amount of effort on employers part (sponsorship license, resident labour test, etc) and you need to meet requirements for job title and salary
- Ancestry through UK born grandparent
- British citizenship through UK born parent
- Irish citizenship through Irish born parent or grandparent
- possible Italian citizenship though Italian ancestors

Tier 2 and Ancestry you would need to go back to your home country to apply.
