How do we apply for an extension on a visa?

Post by SallyO » Wed Jul 12, 2006 3:50 pm

Hi. My boyfriend is English, and I'm Canadian. He's been working and living in Canada on a BUNAC working visa. We'd like to stay here for a few months after his visa expires (end of September) in order to sort out my visa for going back there to live. He wouldn't be working during this time.

We're just wondering if anyone knows how we go about extending (or getting a new one?) his visa so he can stay past when the current one expires. Any help would be awesome. thanks.

As far as i understand it he should be allowed to stay as a visitor for upto 6 months without working and without a visa. I was on the same thing (BUNAC) i am british and met my boyfriend while out there, im currently going back and forth for 8 weeks at a time, but at xmas ill be moving out there to live with him for 1 year so we can qualify as common-law partners. Im not sure if i need to 'extend' my stay when ive been there 6 months im currently trying to find that out.
The best thing for him to do is contact SWAP who are the equivalent of BUNAC, they are very helpful and they advised me a could stay once my working visa was up.

good luck!

I think you should call CIC and they can advise. I am thinking since your stay for the duration has expired, you need authorisation to continue to stay. I am saying this because visitor visa and working visas are two different categories. Just check with CIC or the simplest was is to cross the US border and come back in again when your Bunac permit expires.
