Tier 2 extension

I'm working with a tier 2 (general) for almost 3 years (since 2008). and i'm going to apply for a renewal soon.

If you could help me with the follwoing queries would be great.

1. my tier 2 (general) visa is going to expire on 11th Aug 2011. I have been told by the HR that I can't apply more than 6 weeks before the expire date. Is it a fact?

2. the expirey date on my certificate of sponsor is 30 october 2009, what does this mean?

3. I'm going to apply for my wife's visa extension as well as a dependant. Although my company will provide maintenance fund for me but I have to provide the bank statement for my wife. Can someone confirm me the minimum amount is £533 for consecutive 90 days.

4. Is a savings account eligible for the proofing maintenace fund?
