Travelling with baby

Post by dealm » Thu May 26, 2011 12:57 pm

Hi,

I am a Dutch (EEA) national and have settled in UK since 2007. I was married in India to my Indian wife in Dec 2009. She has been living with me since Feb 2010 and has the Residence Card valid till 2015.

In Dec 2010 my daughter was born. Now as I have not settled for 5 years in UK, I can not apply for a British Passport for her (for travelling to India). Since our marriage was in India, the Dutch authorities want our marriage certificate attested in India though (local DC , IOC and then MEA ). Though MEA doesn't take long (as I have heard), it has been more than 2 months for having our Certificate attested by the DC but still no sign....
Looking to the time scale of travelling after October this year, it might seem difficult to get the documents from India by July or August and then applying for a Passport for her in London(waiting times for appointments: more than 1 or 2 months ahead..)
Is there any other possibility of travelling with the baby?...

AIUI, your child is an Indian citizen by descent (Section 4(1)(b) of Indian citizenship Act).

1. Register the child's birth at any of the Indian High Commission offices in UK.
2. Apply for an Indian passport for the child.
3. Apply for RC for the child from within the UK before travelling or for an EEA permit from India / abroad.

Hi Sushdmehta,

Many thanks! Do you know the processing times after the child's registration and application has been submitted ? Since I hoping to travel to India in October!

If you apply in person (birth registration and passport), it should be quick. You have enough time on your hands.
