hi there i am work permit holder as restaurant manager from 2006 October and i am working for the same place till now. i know there is new rules came at 6 april but as per soc code is 1223 and minimum salary should be 18000 which one i am geting but i talked with one big firm lawyer and they said if am applying for ilr i need to have 20000 thousand minimum salary?

There is nothing like this as I am in same boat aswell code 1223 for restaurant manager is 18000 min.
Try to speak with different lawyr

yes it shoud 18000 if you work 371/2 hour if you work more hour then you need to show more increased salary

See also Appendix A Para 80D and Table 11B

80D. Available points for an application for a Certificate of Sponsorship are shown in Table 11B. No application will be granted unless it scores a minimum of 30 points under the heading "Type of Job" and a minimum of 2 points under the heading "Salary on Offer".

You only get 2 points if the salary is £20,000 -£20,999.99

Suggest that you read the document carefully.
Tier 2 (General) and Work Permit migrants will need to be paid the appropriate salary for the occupation as set out in the relevant Code of Practice for sponsored skilled workers.
Where did the 20K come from (as you have claimed above)?

There is no mention of "WP" on page 15! Here's what page 15 states on the top:
The table below summarises Tier 2 as it will be for those applying on or after 6 April 2011
Tier 2 and WP are two distinct immigration categories. The OP has stated in the opening post that he is a "WP migrant", and so have you - so why are you referring to statements that do not apply to you?

The salary must be at or above the appropriate rate for the job as stated in the codes of practice for Tier 2 Sponsors published by the UK Border Agency.

Whether it needs to be above 20K or not depends on the job and associated SOC code.
