STUCK BATTERED WIFE

Post by dwangui76 » Fri Jun 03, 2011 7:47 pm

Hi,

I have been living in the UK for the last 4years, married to a British citizen of african origin. Things didnt work out as domestic violence was involved. Moved out but not wishing to go back home. am on a spouse visa that is almost running out. Am afraid of working since he told me he sent my passport to the home office and cancelled my visa.

What is the best action?
Is it true he cancelled my visa with no proof?
Is this a common occurence?
On what grounds can I apply to remain in the UK?

is there a difference between a marriage under 2 years and one over 2yrs.......pls advice

Ps:I have no children
I live belfast Northern Ireland

Your husband can't 'cancel' your visa and neither does he have a legal right to send your passport to a 3rd party. I've sent you a PM.

I know a woman who was beaten up by her husband. He was arrested by the police and convicted and sent to prison, though is now released.

She did not want to leave the UK, and so applied under the program for victims of domestic violence. She now has ILR.

I believe she also had a spouse visa initially.
