Can non EEA Stamp 4 register with FAS ?

Post by churada » Sun Jun 05, 2011 6:04 pm

My wife , who is Chinese, is finding it very hard to find work despite having a degree in English and a Stamp 4 visa.

It's not really clear on the FAS website if she can even register with them.
There are some courses that she would be interested in doing which I think would be great for her self confidence and hopefully end up with her finding a job. Is she eligible?

Many years ago I went on one and I remember that they "paid" you while doing the course the equivalent of the dole, now obviously as a Stamp 4 (spouse of Irish citizen) she isn't entitled to that, if she is allowed do one of these courses could this pay be considered against her eventual citizenship application?

Any advice really gratefully accepted.

Provided she has stamp 4 she is eligible to register with FAS. And she may be entitled to take part in any course but whether she will pay for the course will depends if she is in receipt of any social welfare. Again, I don't think she will get paid because she is doing a course.
Her best bet is to contact her local FAS office and enquiry about this.

As a stamp 4 holder:

- Yes she is eligible to register for a FAS course
- Yes she will get 'paid' an allowance, if she qualifies by a means test.
- Yes, this will be viewed the same as receiving a social welfare payment when being considered for naturalisation.
...though it tarries, it shall surely come...
