Tier 1 Extension - Self employed earnings and other queries

Post by sureshep » Thu Jun 09, 2011 3:20 pm

Hi All,

My Tier 1 first extension is due in Nov 2011. I am a self employed IT contractor. I have few questions and need your inputs to proceed further :

1) Earnings : I am working on daily rate basis and monthly salary deposited is getting deposited to my bank account. I need to show minimum 23000 to qualify for my extension. For this amount, how should I calculate the tax and what about NI tax payment ? In total how much I need to pay ? I don't get gross salary. Net amount itself gets deposited to my account ?
If possible, can you please share the policy guideline links ?

2) UK experience : What documents should I need to show for UK experience ?

3) English Language : Since my initial Tier 1 grant permission was given on the grounds where my "Degree taught in English" and "University is also listed in the UKBA site". So, what should I need to do this time ?

4) Age : It has been discussed in this forum - the age whatever we had mentioned during 1st Tier 1 (General) grant will be considered as same for this extension also ? Is that true ?

5) What about the maintenance of funds - I came here to UK in October 2010 and I will be filling my visa in Nov 15th 2011. By that time, I will be completing my 1 year. So will I need to maintain 800 GBP ? What is the amount for < less than 1 year ?

Looking forward to your kind responses.

1) You need to register as self employed if you havn't already done so. HMRC then send quartly NI bills. Also you recieve UTR number when you register with HMRC. Without these documents, HO will reject your earnings

2) Look at the guidance. It states minium earnings made within UK to qualify four experience points.

3) I assume you automatically get points for english language for extension application. Look at the form and guidance.

4) Same as above.

5) Maintenance fund is £800 per applicant.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your speedy responses. Regarding the earning to show 23000 K....how much tax I need to pay ? and how about the NI payment ?

For contracting field, is there any expenses I can show to HMRC so as to get the returns after some years for the tax paid ?

Regarding the maintainence funds - how it is considered ?? For my case - by the time of Oct 15th I will be completing my 1 year tenure. So after this period - Will I need to wait for another 3 months for maintaining funds ? What is funds maintainance if it is < 1 year ?

Once again thanks for help and guiding me on right track.

Regards
