Hello everyone, I'm an EU student - just finnished my first year now. I have had my work permit since April so that's fine. But i dont have an insurance number and i need it IMMEDIATELY because i want to apply for a living expenses loan (you cant unless you got a national insurance number) and just found out the application deadline is 30th of June.
My question is how long does it usually take to get the number after the interview and is there anyway of making it faster if its not soon enough?
Thank you for reading my question.
[edit] Ive got my interview scheduled for the 17th of june

If you have a job offer, then they usually process it in 7-15 working days. If you do not, then it takes usually 30-45 days to get your NI number after your interview.
You could mention during your NI interview that you need it earlier (for the purpose you mention in your post) and see if they can process it for your a bit quicker.

are you sure that you're eligible for a maintenance loan? Not all EU students are.

According to this i should be fine but god why didnt i get the stupid number months ago when my workers permit arrived i cant believe the crap im in now.
Do you think if i tell them i need it sooner because i need to "drain" even more money out of their country (as some may perceive it) that will piss them off or they will be cooperating?

Thanks. do you think just telling them i got a job offer (and i really am looking for a job right now, just had no offers yet) will suffice or ill have to present some evidence :S?
on a side note.. anyone know if i can maybe persuade the student finance company to accept my application at a later date?

well because you don't have a NI number that suggested to me that you have not been working and therefore may not meet the criteria as an EU migrant worker in order to qualify for a maintenance loan/grant.
Perhaps have a read through this link as this explains in more detail who qualifies for a maintenance grant/loan.

If you have a job offer/contract with you, they will take that into consideration. They do ask for evidence.

it doesn't work like that. You have already started your course nine months ago. Looking for work now doesn't make you a migrant worker in the context of the fee regulations. You may still qualify for a fee loan but not a maintenance loan.
You could try to persuade them to accept your application late or to submit it without your national insurance number and submit the number later.
