Looking at move to US in the future and need advice....

I am a current serving UK Police Officer of just over 2 years and next year my girlfriend and I plan to get married and her come live/work over here for a few years whilst I improve my experience (both in terms of years service and work experience).

Doing her job in the UK she will have to take a sizeable wage cut so we are looking at the possibility of in a few years me taking a career break and giving things a go in the USA. As we will already be married by then we will look to apply for a visa/green card for myself before we come over and then there will just be the issue of finding employment.

Now I know that I wont be able to do my job I do in the UK in the USA as you cannot do a latteral transfer and you have to be a USC to perform the role in the USA and the way in which policing works (although both countries have the same aim) is very different. But I do not have a degree and will solely be relying on my work experience to find employement and I understand that in the US they love applicants for jobs to at least have an Associates Degree (Foundation Degree in the UK). This is not to say that I am not well edjucated nor intelligent.

I was wondering if anybody had any advice on whether there are employers in the USA (if you can sell yourself) that will train you up in a job or have advice on possible career or short term courses that I would look to undertake given my previous experience.

These are my 2 cents...

It is perfectly fine for you to acquire more experience in the UK, just remember that later on you will be applying for the very same position other USC with college degrees and military experience will be applying for.

So, my suggestions are these: try to pursue some sort of college education in the US, find out with your immigration attorney how you can become an USC while being abroad, and if possible joint our honorable military force to first, serve our Country, and secondly to obtain the experience that eventually will level you up.

Yes enrolling at a US University/College to do some kind of Associates Degree is definitiely an option but I wouldnt be looking at coming over on a student visa more so a marriage visa. It would just be a matter of finding the right course (location, topic and cost) for me and my situation. It would either be that or find some form of employment.

And to be fair the military route is not an option, although I appreciate what the lads and ladys do for their countries on both sides of the atlantic, that kind of work/lifestyle is not for me.
