Regarding the maintenance fees in the bank.

Post by Angel592 » Mon Jun 20, 2011 6:57 pm

On the UKBA website regarding the maintenance fees it says
''On a course of more than 9 months you will be required to show that you have the first year of the tuition fees plus either £7200 or £5400 depending on whether you intend to study inside or outside of the Inner London Boroughs (see below). These amounts must be held in your personal bank account or your parent(s) / legal guardians bank account for a consecutive 28 day period (finishing on the date of the closing balance) ending no more than 1 month before your application.''

My dad is going to put the 5,400 in my bank account from now and I am going to apply for my student visa in August, so its going to be in my bank for more than 28 days, but I will show them a new bank statement by that time for the whole month. I just want to make sure that is okay, because I'm not sure of the wording in the phrase ''These amounts must be held in your personal bank account or your parent(s) / legal guardians bank account for a consecutive 28 day period (finishing on the date of the closing balance) ending no more than 1 month before your application.''

Please help!
Thank youu!

I'm unclear about the sentence '''These amounts must be held in your personal bank account or your parent(s) / legal guardians bank account for a consecutive 28 day period (finishing on the date of the closing balance) ending no more than 1 month before your application.''
What do they mean by ''ending no more than 1 month before your application?''

that means from the validity of the bank statement is 1 month. for eg if your closing date of statement is 25 of june you have to apply to visa before 25 th of july ( in other words you can use the statement for one month maximum from the date of closing balance)

Sorry but I also don't understand this:

Extension applications (see Tier 4 Guidance): On a course of 9 months or less we will need to see evidence of the full tuition fees plus £800 per month for study based in the Inner London Boroughs (see below), and £600 per month for study elsewhere (up to a maximum of 2 months). Part months will be rounded up to the next month. On a course of more than 9 months we will need to see the first year of tuition fees plus 2 months of maintenance at the rates given above. This would mean £1600 for studying in the Inner London Boroughs (see below) and £1200 for studying elsewhere. You cannot apply for the lower amount of living costs if you finished your course more than 4 months ago or the course you finished was less than 6 months’ duration.

I'm going to be outside the Inner London Boroughs (Birmingham) and I'm paying home fees (British citizen husband) so I've paid 3,000 and I still have 750 left to pay.. I'm planning on paying that when I start studying in September. Does this sentence above concern me or not as I'm not sure what they mean about the £1200.

Thank you for your help!

Are you reading the tier 4 policy guidance? if not I suggest you do so.

What is your current immigration status in the UK? The £1200 relates to the amount you need to show for your maintenance (living costs) which is in addition to the amount you need to show for your tuition fees. If you have already been studying in the UK on a student visa or a tier 4 visa, and have either completed a course of over 6 months duration or have completed 6 months of a course and are appling for further leave to complete that course, then you only need to show that you have £1200 in maintenance. Otherwise you need to show £600 for each month of your course, up to a maximum of 9 months (£5400).

Why are you applying for a tier 4 visa if your husband is a British citizen? Are you certain that you qualify for home fees?

Oh good, because I thought I have to show the 5,400 plus the 1,200!
I only have visitor visa in the UK at the moment which doesn't expire until the end of September. I'm an Irish resident and an Algerian national (so I still need visa to the UK)
I did my fee assessment at my university and they just had to see my marriage certificate (my husband lives in the UK) and that qualified me to pay home fees :) The only reason I'm applying for a student visa is so I can enter the UK to study in September as I only have a visitor visa for now :)

Yes but why not apply for a spouse visa if your husband is British?

Because we're both under 21, I'm 18 and he just turned 20 two days ago :( Sad times lool, oh well, I won't be needing spouse visa if I have student visa and hopefully by the time I finish my degree I'll have my Irish citizenship, I'm expecting it sometime soon hopefully :)

Thanks for your help by the way! :)
