Family visitor visa, help needed please!

Hi. I am recently on a CP visa with a british citizen and we are currently living together in our own flat. My brother is applying for a family visitor VISA and my details will be given regarding his application. He is intending to apply for a year(twelve months) family visitor VISA and he ll be living with us during this period. is this Visa possible? I have read some family visitor visa for 6 months, but when He started his application, there was an option for 1 year.
I would like to know further information about this visa please and If, in that case, The Home Office could grant him the VISA easily or not, and also what documents would be essential to support his application.
I look forward to an answer as soon as possible please.

The visa is valid for a year - but the maximum stay in any one period is 6 months.

He cannot simply leave and return on a new 6 month period. The HO issue guidance suggesting that no visitor should stay more than 6 months in any 12 month period.

So - while the visa is valid for a year - it's intended for people who make lots of short trips over the period.

As for documents and everything else - there are plenty of threads here on the site which can help. You can also find good document lists on the UKBA and UKVisas websites.

I dont quite understand it. When He started the application, he is asked if he wants to apply for up to 6 months,1 year,2 years or 4 years. He chose 1 year thinking that it could be possible to stay here and travel from time to time around Europe. The question is: Should he proceed with this application or alter to a 6 month family visitor VISA? Can this visa be renewed in the UK without need to go back to our homecountry (which is Brazil)? thank you.

a visit visa for 6 months cannot be renewed from within the UK.

as per MPH80s post - regardless of whether the person has been issued a 6 month, 12 month, 2 year visit visa etc he can only spend a maximum of 6 months in any 12 in the UK.
