Will using USA medicaid ruin my chance of obtaining UK visa?

I read through some Tier 4 info this website links to but I couldn't find my answer.

I'm from the USA and during a few different periods of unemployment I received health insurance from the government. I have never applied for or received welfare money or food stamps, just health insurance. Will my reliance on state health insurance prevent me from obtaining a student visa in the UK?

It might help if you explain a bit more about what your situation is (what you plan to study and where, whether you have applied for your course, what savings etc. you have).

In general you should expect to be able to show that you have the resources to pay your course fees and support yourself in the UK. Will you be able to do that?

I have the funds for course fees and to support myself in the UK. I haven't yet chosen what or where to study. I'm not required to repay the government for my health insurance coverage and during tax time I was not asked whether or not I am enrolled in medicaid. But the way I see medicaid, it's basically like welfare; the government was paying the full cost of my doctor visits while I didn't have a job. So I'm not sure how the UK views that sort of thing.

The UK does not care about your use of other countries' resources. If you're American and you were entitled to medicaid at the time, there's nothing wrong with that. Just make sure that you have enough money for your course and living costs when you apply for your tier 4.
