Travelling 11 Months after Valid Tier1 Visa

Hi Experts,
I got the Intial Tier1 Visa in Jan'11 which is valid for 2 yrs(till Jan 2013).

1. I didnt travel to UK till now and planning to travel in Dec'11,as i get to know that i need to be working in UK for atleast 1 yr to apply for Extension. Am i having the correct information here?

2. After my landing in UK from Dec'11, suppose i dont get job for 2-3 months, can i show myself as self-employee for this period and pay the required taxes to govt.
Since for extension i need to show consequtive 1 yr employement,so i want to show--
self employee for say 3 months + 9 months salary documents = 1 year.

Does this work in realtime scenario to have successful extension or i am on wrong direction.

Please provide your valuable suggestions !!!

1. Yes, you are having correct information.

2. Yes, you can get extension on the basis of earnings from self employment.

3. For extension you do not need consecutive 12 months employment or self employment. You need to show required earnings in maximim of 12 months time. Maximum is 12 and there is no minimum. It could be in even 1 months or 15 days.

You can even come in the last 6 months and claim extension but it is adviseable to come before 12 months because if you come too late. You can have little problem at airport immigration because they can ask you questions that why are you so late in immigrating.. if you do not satisfy them then you can be in trouble.

You don't have to show full year's working - if you can make up the salary requirements in 9 months.

Also, when you say you want to show yourself as self-employed and pay required taxes, I'm assuming you will actually be doing something to earn the money to pay taxes on? Not just paying tax as if you were earning the money

1. Where did u read or got information that u require to be in UK for 1 yr. I have my visa since 2008 and traveled in Jan 2011 with job in hand and will be applying for extension end of july 2011.

Until u are getting all the points there should not be any problem for extension that is what i have read in most of the forum.
