Switching from Tier 1 PSW to General Category

Post by cheeri0369 » Sat Jul 02, 2011 8:54 pm

So I'm a bit confused and this might have already been addressed but if anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm currently on a PSW visa that is valid until March 2012. I missed the deadline because I'm an idiot and was not paying attention to the massive changes going on. Now I'm not sure what to do. I have been working full time for a London-based company for a year, and I may ask them about sponsorship but I'm not sure it will happen and even so, it's not necessarily a skilled job that needs a migrant worker.

So there was a limit for April 2011 - 2012 but my visa covers most of that time anyway. So do I just wait for the 2012-2013 applications to open? I'm really not sure what to do before my visa expires.

Anyone have some ideas?

Tier 1 General is permanently closed from 6th April 2011. It will not open again.
Only option you may have is to find sponsorship

Right but I read that was for April 2011 through April 2012.

http://www.workpermit.com/news/2011-03- ... l-2012.htm

It says "The UK has already announced an annual permanent immigration cap on Tier 1 highly skilled immigration and Tier 2 skilled immigration that will take effect in 6 April of 2011. There is currently a temporary immigration cap." - I think I was looking at it in terms of Tier 1 and not the general category and I know that has been eliminated like you said. Apologies, I saw annual cap and know that meant yearly.
