USCIS has requested a genuine statement of intent to marry f

Post by smkelvin32 » Sun Jul 03, 2011 3:20 pm

Hi there people:

First of all, I must thank you for running this forum. I've read loads of useful details on this forum in the course of the k1 visa process for my fiancee from Moldova.

She's finally here and now we are quite content. The process seemed to be not as easy as I expected. There are various aspects that caused waiting in our visa journey. I would like to share them with you and hope that someone will be able to avoid potential delays during this process if he takes my experience into consideration:

First, the US government requires a total final divorce decree. What I have included appeared to be a Divorce Nisi, which isn't a final divorce decree. Once the RFE was issued I had to secure a final divorce and send it back to USCIS.

Secondly, USCIS has requested a genuine statement of intent to marry from my fiancee. I believed that a well-scanned copy will suffice, nevertheless, the RFE said that the statement should be original. And finally, we lost precious time because we were expecting the US Embassy to correspond with my fiancee by mail. Surprisingly, the postal service in my fiancee's country is not reliable and we never have received anything at all. Fortunately, I have read this forum and found out that I can download instructions straight from the website of the US Embassy and no specific wait time is required.

We are looking to get married next week and definately will start the process for the greencard soon!
