Citizenship Application

Post by wentworth » Fri Jul 01, 2011 3:31 pm

Hi

I am going to apply for Citizenship in 6 months time on the basis of 3 years in the UK married to a British Citizen.

Unfortunately we have separated, but she is still supporting my application. I have recently moved out of our home (we still get on well though) and have changed my HMRC self employment registered address and arranged a tax credits claim. The only thing I am hesitant to change is my bank account address as the address I have moved to is occupied by 6 other residents and has a shared letter box. I am also worried to change my driving licence . Will I encounter any problems when applying for Citizenship if I leave these unchanged. Will it reflect badly on my application?

Thank you

If you don't update your address anywhere i.e Bank statements or Driving lisence then HO will think you are living at the address you specify on your application form.(assuming you will put down your old address)

But that agian will not be a true representation of either yourself or the information you declare...

Hiya 1664

Thanks for your reply. I will be putting down the address that I live at (not my old address, this wil be put in the previous address section). However I just didn't want HO to see discrepancies when they process the application ie. Bank address different from where I am currently living. I spoke to one of the team at Home Office BC helpline and she said thats its not a problem at all as they don't check that in depth, but I'm not sure......

For the application wouldn't you have to prove that you are your wife currently live in the same address either for a joint or a married to BC application? have you thought that through?
If they don't check in that much detail then

Put in the address where you used to live as current (and change the address with the HO after you get an acknowledgement letter)
Or
Put in the address where you currently live.... also pay attention to the spouse section of the form.

Best Wishes

1664, you are able to submit an application for BC even if you are no longer living with your spouse, as long as a divorce hasn't been finalised. As far as the UKBA are concerned the couple are still considered to be married. the status 'married' should be given on the application form, even if a couple are legally separated through the court. The British spouse however has to provide their passport or birth certificate and not all separated spouses are willing to do this.
See form AN regarding separation.

Passport & BC

Post by tehran » Mon Jul 04, 2011 12:58 pm

Do you knwo if an applicant needs to supply their passoprt when appying for BC, or is a photo card driving licence sufficent. The form says one of the following, but If you have a passport and don't send it will Home Office request it?

Many thanks

You need to send your passport as part of your application for BC, only way to retain your passport is to apply via NCS.
