I was meant to be visiting Spain next week with my wife on our honeymoon. I made an appointment with the VFS office in London for the 30th of June and went to their offices armed with the documents they had specified on the VFS website. I have ILR in the UK by the way.
I had to get printouts of my bank statement from my bank which they subsequently stamped, signed AND attached a covering letter.
I am a freelance graphic designer so I had to get a letter from the company I am currently contracted to and a letter from my solicitor confirming this. There are clearly marked cash transfers from my contractor's account to mine proving that I do have an income.
I got a text message informing me that my application had been processed and was ready for collection from the VFS offices in London. I assumed that the visa had been granted but to my dismay there was a letter attached to a page on my passport and a stamp stating that "Visa applied for....Type of visa C"
The letter stated:
"you have not provided proof of sufficient means of subsistence, for the duration of the intended stay or for the return to the country of origin or residence, or for the transit to a third country into which you are certain to be admitted, or you are not in a position to acquire such means lawfully"
And also:
"the information submitted regarding the justification for the purpose and conditions of the intended stay was not reliable"
I am a Zimbabwean national with ILR in the UK. And have never had a criminal record, drink driving convictions or cautions. The letter stated that i could appeal within a month. My question in this regard are:
1. Are the reasons for refusal related to money?
2. If I appeal do I have to go through the whole application process again at VFS or do I go to the consulate directly?
3. Is the stamp a bad thing and does it mean I cant apply to another Schengen country?
I know I've gone on a bit on this post but my I'm in bits over this decision and have not had the most pleasant and easiest experiences when trying to reach the spanish consulate.
Thank you in advance for your help.
