Request Help

Post by medserve2011 » Tue Jul 12, 2011 7:05 pm

My wife came in UK in the year 2007 on work permit. I joined her in 2010 on work permit dependent visa. Her name on the passport has only FIRST NAME, she does not have surname on her passport and/or work permit. Her work permit and passport are both till July 2013 and after that we need to apply for ILR.

We were blessed by a baby boy this year and we contact Indian embassy in London and they say mother name should have surname of husband. They are asking to apply for a new passport for my wife so that they can put her name with my surname.

Indian Embassy says they will attach both passports together.

My query is - If Indian embassy in London issues her a new passport, will my wife need to get the visa transferred from old passport to the new passport or because both the passports are gonna be attached together, we will not be required to transfer the visa from old to new.

There is a high level of confusion. If somebody in the board can confirm - whether we need to transfer the visa from OLD to NEW-------OR----------since both the passports are gonna be attached together, we need not transfer the visa.

Any help shall be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Medserve2011,

I have been in the same scenario before.

As long as the passports are attached together and you always travel with both of them, you do not to transfer the visa to the new passport.

Kind Regards

Thanks for your response.

I went to the Uk Border website and they say that if somebody is on time bound work permit, they need to fill a TOC form and do biometrics test again even if somebody carries both the passport together. Quite confused. Do we need to fill in TOC form for which the fee is GBP 380.

Quite confused and not sure what to do ....

I do not have any idea about that, as my case happened prior to when biometric enrolment came into force.

Hopefully, someone with more knowledge can provide you with the answer you seek.

Kind Regards
