Child benefit and citizenship applicaion

Post by prasnna » Sat Jul 16, 2011 11:45 pm

Hi, Me and my wife got our ILR in Dec 2009 and looking fwd to apply for citizenship in a months time.

Till date we haven't claimed any benefits and we just had over first baby so about to fill the child benefit form.

w.r.t question 18/19 of section 1 of the Child benefit form.

18. Are you subject to immigration control now, or at any time in the last three months? [Y/N]

19. If you have been subject to immigration control in the last three months tell us the date your immigration status was granted.

What to I need to enter for question 18?

Will claming this benefit affects my Citizenship application?

My Wife is not working now. Do I need to fill this form only my name or her name or both?

Thanks in advance,
Prasnna

You stopped coming under Immigration Control when you were both granted ILR in 2009.
The question is asked due to the fact that the payments for Child Benefit can be backdated for 3 months, which would mean that anyone who had been granted ILR less than 3 months before the CB claim wouldn't be entitled to receive the back payments.
In your case you have every entitlement and this will in no way affect your BC application.
Read through the Benefits section on the forum and information posted by our Moderator, John. You may find that there are other benefits you and are your wife are able to claim.

Casa, I concur, no problem prasnna, or his wife, claiming Child Benefit.

And no problem them both making a joint claim for Tax Credits, if entitled.
