Shop lifting effect on Dependent ILR application

Post by mafsd786 » Tue Jul 19, 2011 1:00 pm

HI All,

I am on Tier 1 (General) and i will be applying for my ILR on 29th July with my two dependents includes my wife and my son.

Few months ago my wife made mistake of shop lifting and she was caught in shop with her friend. Later police was called and they were taken to the police station. After keeping some time in police station taking the informations from them they were allowed to go home but their case was forwared to the court and they were told to pay penalty in court. And my wife and her friend were cleared after paying fine in the court.

Can some one please tell me will this shop lifting can affect her ILR application status as my Dependent? or will it can affect my ILR application as well as i was not involved and was not even with her at this time.

Thanks for your time.

Its a conviction even though all she paid was a 'penalty fine'.
But she has 'done the time' so she should be okay since it was not a custodial sentence.

It must be declared on the form though, explaining briefly what happened and the Police/Court IDs etc.

All the best and tell her to be careful next time :)

I consider shoplifting to be a major crime. What message she is giving to her son. She has not only committed a crime, she might have just inspired a friend and more so a son to go in the same path.

If I am the policymaker, I would not allow people like her to settle in the same country as me. But unfortunately, the UK immigration laws are very lenient to let people go even after committing this crime.

I don't see a problem in this case unless the crime is something more than what you described. I would advise not to discuss these matters more and encourage her to be a disciplined human being from now on.
