Help! lost pasport with first ever UK Visa entry clearance

Post by uniriri » Sat Aug 13, 2011 8:54 pm

Hi All,

I'm applying for my TIER 2 (General) swith from PSW visa next month and need help on filling in Section D of the application form which asks about Immigration History - which includes the country/city which the applicant obtain entry clearance before travelling to the UK, the date the entry clearance or visa issued as well as the reference number on the entry clearance or visa which is in the pasport and or travel document.

The problem is, I've lost my old, old visa which has this info and I've now been in and out of the UK for 9 years - and am now on my 3rd (going on 4th visa) which are:

Student Visa (2002-2006) - in PASPORT 1 (LOST)
Student Visa extension (2006-1009) - in PASPORT 2 (will attach to app)
PSW Visa (2009-2011) - PASPORT 3 (current - will attach to app)

What should/could I do? I will try and call the UKBA up on monday to ask for my SAR but will this help? And how long does this SAR take? 2 weeks? (I am hoping to apply in 4 weeks) How much of a problem will this cause? I'm suprised that they are asking this as for my last visa application (PSW), they only asked for details of CURRENT visa and not ENTRY CLEARANCE visa and as I've already lost my pasport then too, when i called them up they said it's not a problem (and it wasnt because there wasn't exact questions pertaining to entry clearance which needed to be answered).

I can't exactly answer 'NO' to the question: 'did the applciant obtain entry clearance or a visa before entering the UK' as I DID have an entry clearance. Anyways, even I say no, the next question is 'at which port did the applicant enter the UK?' which, it being 9 years ago, I don't remember! much else the following question asking for 'details of journey', ticket booking or reference number' and 'transport operator'. I mean, who remembers such thing???

thanks all!

I think its better to give more information (even if its slightly irrelevant) rather than hiding facts. Write details about your lost passport, etc. And any police report that you had received, etc.

It would be an issue since you've already gained clearance after that numerous times so they'd keep that in mind.

hi silverchloride,

yeah, defo had no intention to hiding facts - the problem here is i have NO facts whatsoever that i remember as the pasport expired in 2004 - I've no copies or recollection of anything - pasport no, exact valid and expiry date, visa valid and expiry date (all i know was that uni started sometime in september 2002 but i could have gotten the visa in august, or july....)

am just asking, apart from writing a whole lot of 'don't remember, don't remember, don't remember' - what i can do to actually get my hand on the 'facts' of my lost visa (ie. like SAR, which i've heard mentioned around these message boards to contain details such as exit, entry dates, and any corespondence with UKBA - but again, having not asked nor seen once before, i can't be sure if its what i'm looking for)

thanks,

asri

if passport is lost, then go lodge an application in police station. Include police report in your app

Be open. If you dont have 'facts', then do your best and give them approximate dates. They can check the dates for you. As long as you say that you are only recalling these things off the top of your head, i think you should be fine...

But it is a tricky situation so tread carefully. Cuz, they can legally say to you to be 'lying' if you provide ultimately false info on your app (its irrelevant if it is intentional or unintentional!).

Might be worth to get a lawyer!

EDIT: You are suppose to lodge an app with police in case you lose passport. Do it and attach it with your app.

hi all,

pasport was lost in 2006 and was not lost in this country. after it expired and i was on a new pasport with a new visa, i had no need for it anymore and gave it to my parents who, amidst constant moving, can't seem to find it anymore.

it doesn't seem right to lodge a lost application now. besides, this wont help me answer the questions in the visa application form - ie, when did i arrive, which airport, which airline, etc

i would obviously put in the application that I lost it in previous sections when asked- but i don't feel comfortable leaving these questions blank if i could get my hand on some information

does anyone know what a SAR report would contain?

hi arsenal,

is it really worth to run this by a lawyer? they are really expensive and as i said, when i was applying for my current visa, they didnt seem to think it was a problem.

yeah in hindsight i should have lodge an app with the police when i realize i lost it but i only realize i lost it when i was trying to apply for my current visa, 3years after the one that was lost expired - so its not like i'm even sure what happened to it! and besides, i didn't think that lodging an application w the police would do anything - it's not like they could find it, and it was a 3 year old expired visa!

is there no way i can find out exact dates of when i arrived in this country? i havent been checked whenever i leave but i always get checked at arrival - so i know the UKBA has my details somewhere and i thought these are available to you with a SAR request?

thnx

i personally don't know exactly what is included in SAR...

But, my point is, if you put anything in your app, which turns out to be wrong than UKBA can say you tried to deceive them and repercussions are serious!

Request a SAR, maybe it gives you all the info you required...

also, try to call the airline company and see if they can help you find you exact dates of travel???
