Housing Benifit! Husband with 'no access to public funds'

Post by parvin86 » Sat Aug 20, 2011 2:49 pm

Hi all!
I hope someone can help me.

I am 24 years old and a British citizen. My husband is 25 and Bangladeshi citizen with 'Leave to Remain'. His visa/Biometric Residency permits states 'NO PUBLIC FUNDS'.

I am currently not working and he works part time and only earns £95pw.

We are currently living with my family and want to move out as soon as possible, but can't without help.

Can I apply for Housing Benifit?

If yes can we get the couple amount (upto £162 a week)?

Or will it just be based on me? Because if it is, I am only eligible for the shared accomodation amount which is only upto £60pw as I am under 25.

Please help! I would really appreciate help from someone in the same situation as me.

No you can't claim the couples amount you can only claim the amount you would get if you were single.

You can make a joint claim for tax credits though if he is working more than 16 hours a week or you can find work.
