Entry into the united kingdom

Post by dnicky » Sun Aug 27, 2006 3:47 pm

I'm currently on HSMP visa (valid till 2009) in the UK and am on holidays visiting my home country. My wife has a dependent visa and her passport (Indian) is due to expire in february 2007. We would be travelling back to UK in September second week.
My question is that is it mandatory to have the passport valid for more than 6 months to be able to re-enter the United Kingdom, as my wife's passport validity will be just short of 6 months at the time of entry into the UK. Any feedback on the above query is highly appreciated. Was not able to find any substantial information regarding the same on either IND or workingintheuk.gov.uk website.

Thanks.

I don't know whether the UK has a formal "six-month rule" but it seems to me that if you have a valid visa, any such rule wouldn't apply anyway - surely the validity of the visa would be restricted to the validity of the passport, if such a rule were in place?

Just my view, though...

Yes, but surely the visa could be transferred into a new passport when the old one expires or becomes expired because of a renewal. The question then becomes whether that would be more easily done inside the UK or outside.
