Changing name in Passport

Post by prast » Tue Aug 29, 2006 2:20 am

I hope Im posting this in the right forum..

I just got married with a British Citizen and in the process of applying a spouse visa, so the embassy hold my passport now (from before i got married). Now that I am married, I have a surname. Is it urgent for me to change my name in my passport? Which means making a new passport. If I dont change it, will it cause any problem for us in the UK? Such as dealing with anything require us as a married couple, spouse. Maybe mortgage or insurance.. :?: Do I get fined if I delay it?
If I make a new passport after my old passport stamped with my spouse visa, what will happen then? Will the visa be transfered or anything like that?
If I take my passport from the embassy, will it postponed our process to get me a spouse visa? Because its taking long enough as it is :!: :?
Thanks a bunch
Really appreciate any infos

Congratulations, Prast!
I don't think it is a problem so far as UK authorities are concerned. Simply carry a copy of your marriage certificate (and an English translation) with your passport, and change your name in the passport when it is convenient.

Thanks, ppron747 :D
I hope the spouse visa will be granted soon. How long does the process usually take place? I tried to contact the embassy, visa dept, but got answered with a machine :x and when I phone in query time, its always busy

Cheers

Sorry you're being kept waiting, Prast - I really don't know how long the process normally takes, in Jakarta, I'm afraid - it must vary from country to country. Hang in there!

spouse visa news

Post by prast » Tue Aug 29, 2006 8:27 am

I just phoned the visa section...accidentally...cause the number i was referred to always answered by a machine.
They said the result is in an enclosed and sealed envelope, and only me can open it. They dont know the result. I hope its a good news. Opinions? Well Im gonna go and get it tomorrow.....
Wish me luck.
