Common Law Sponsoring Helppppppppp

Post by helpneeded11 » Fri Sep 01, 2006 5:34 am

My girlfriend and I have been living together for almost 3 years now, and just recently I decided to start the conversation with her about immigration for her. We were actually getting all the documentation together so we could seek for a lawyer's advice. Well.... we just found out that she is pregnat and we don't know what to do since she does not have status in Canada. She is an International student.
We face two problems at the moment, 1.- the pregnancy and her status situation without health coverage, and 2.- I'm currently unemployed, but not in welfare.

I understand that in order to sponsor her, I would have to show proof of income, which at the moment I don't have. So here are my question................

Could I apply for her immediately and get health coverage while the case is being proceesed?

Would the fact that I'm unemplyed at the moment affect the application by delaying it? If so, what is the minimum I have to proof as annual income?

How long the process would take?

Does anyone have information about aid for pregnat woman without status in Toronto??? Please Please any suggestion will help.

Any suggestion!!!!!!!! We are kind of desperated since the pregnancy situaton took us by surprise.

Please any suggestion is well and greatly appreciated.

Joe

Hey Joe!

May I ask where she does have citizenship? She may be able to get health insurance from her country of citizenship and use that for now. I'm from the US, and before even travelling to Canada we're instructed to bring proof of health insurance with us in case of an accident or illness. I would assume that means foreign health coverage (at least from the US) is acceptable.

Good luck with everything. I'm sure it will all work out in the end.

thank you.

She is Taiwanese. I guess nobody is 100% ready for this situations. We are very happy about the pregnancy, however I don't know how my employment status will affect by delaying the sponsoring process.

I'm very open to suggestions
