I am a US citizen, born and raised in New Jersey. My boyfriend, however, is a Canadian citizen, born and raised in Ontario. The plan is for me to move up there after I graduate from college (which will be next winter, so time is running out) and to eventually become a citizen so we can get married and all that good stuff.
What I need to know, first and foremost, is how long a US citizen can stay in Canada (not work, just stay...I realize a work visa is needed for employment) without a visa? I have read from as little as 3 months to as much as a year. I would just like a clear answer from someone who knows better than I do!

I'm trying to figure out what kind of visa would work best for me, as the only employment I've had for over a year so far is a bank teller (which is still my current occupation), and I don't believe that will cut it as far as a skilled worker visa goes....didn't see it on that list. Ah well. So, I thought depending how long I could live there without a visa, maybe I'd be there just long enough to apply for a common-law/conjugal partner visa.
SO anyway....yea...how long can a US citizen stay in Canada without a visa?
